Our Story

What we do:

Valor Academic was created to make the student veteran academic journey less complicated and more transparent. We apply lessons learned by hundreds of high achieving veteran graduates, to develop the best content to help student veterans focus on their studies, not on college policies. Our programming is designed to assist veterans with college selection, evaluating accepted schools for fit, guidance for Transfer Credits, understanding Financial Aid and Veterans Benefits, Class and Major selection, Internships, and college success strategies. We provide expert step-by-step guidance and tutorials, to help student veterans navigate all the challenges ahead on their path to achieving their collegiate pursuits.

Why we do it:

Chad Rairie, a Marine Corps Combat Veteran (OEF) founded Valor Academic after being admitted to some of the most prestigious private and public institutions in the country, including multiple Ivy’s, but having been denied by every university he applied to in Texas. When he asked why, no one seemed to be able to explain the inconsistency. He was accepted to the elite private institution of his dreams, but had no idea how much it would cost him. When transferring colleges, how many transfer credits would he receive? None of the elite institutions would commit to a number of credits. How does a veteran or any student compare one college to any other college? When a veteran doesn’t receive a check for their education benefits, who on campus can help them resolve the issue? When you require surgery for combat related injuries or require bereavement for the loss of a loved one or fellow service member, how do you take leave from classes? These questions likely all seem familiar to veterans struggling to navigate higher education at institutions across the country.

Valor Academic was established by veterans to help alleviate the stress of these questions, to help streamline the processes, remove the mystery, and find the points of contact best suited to answer questions to help you succeed. We help untangle the college bureaucracy for the benefit of all student veterans. Chad and his team are here to help veterans answer the questions in minutes or worst-case days, that it took him and hundreds of fellow student veterans months or even years to answers. And we don’t just help veterans and dependents, we also consult directly with colleges and universities across the country to improve veteran services and the veteran experience on campus. Our goal is to see more veterans receive a quality education, and to improve veteran graduation rates.

Why it Matters:

We believe that more veterans graduating college will provide better outcomes for veterans, better outcomes for colleges and universities, build stronger local communities, and create better outcomes for our nations’ taxpayers, who provide the opportunity for veterans through the GI Bill. Our nation needs our veterans to lead at home the way they lead in the service. Our nation needs its veterans to lead in the classroom, to lead as entrepreneurs, to lead corporations, and to lead in their local communities. Valor Academic is here to help our veterans succeed in their education as a first step to accomplishing all of these other goals.
